First of all download the theme clicking the download button below. Once you’ve downloaded the theme you must first upload theme files and then activate the theme itself. To upload theme login to admin panel of your WordPress site then navigate to Appearance > Add New Themes > Upload. Go to browse, and select the archived (.zip) theme package. Hit “Install Now” and the theme will be uploaded and installed. Once the theme is uploaded, you need to activate it. To active the theme go to Appearance > Themes and activate your chosen theme.
Setting up the Home Page
To set up the home page in the admin panel navigate to Pages > Add New. From the Page Attribute section and select the “Home Page Template” and click “Publish”. Now you need to make this page as a default page for your WordPress website. To do so, go to Settings > Reading and configure the “Front Page Displays” setting. Select the static page option and choose the page you just created as your front page.
Your homepage is now created and can be configured through the theme options.
Setting up Main Menu, About, Portfolio, Blog and Contact Pages
Similarly create pages from “About”, “Portfolio”, “Contact Us” and Blog by selecting appropriate templates from the page Attributes Section. For Blog page keep the page template to “Default Template”. While creating “Portfolio” page you can select the layout of your portfolio from the attributes section below the contents editor. Available layout options are “One Column”, “Two Columns” and “Three Columns”.
Once again go Settings> Reading and set the “Posts Page” by selecting the “Blog” page created in the previous step.
Now you need to setup main menu, to setup menu go to Appearance> Menus and create a menu and set it as a primary menu and add all the pages you’ve created to this menu and adjust the order if you like.
Setting Up the About Page
To set up “About” page once again you need to go to pages and then edit the “About” page that will be blank up till now since we haven’t created any contents for “About” page yet. Once the edit screen is open go ahead and some contents in the contents editor and press publish. That’s it! Your “About” page is ready. But, there are few more things you can do with your “About” Page.
- You can add custom headings, using short code(I’ll explain it later)
- Add “Featured Clients” widget
To add custom heading you need to use [big_heading] short code. Here is an example.
[big_heading color="pink" highlight="award-winning"]We are a full service award-winning business company operating in 10 Canadian cities. [/big_heading]
The “highlight” attribute will determine to what text the selected color is applied, where the color is the CSS class. You can define your own classes and use them. You can also use this “[big_heading]” anywhere in any content you like, whether it’s a blog post or page.
To add “Featured Clients” go to Appearance> Widgets and drag the “Featured Clients” widget to “About Page Featured Clients” area on the right hand side and update information for your clients.
Adding Portfolio Items
To add a new portfolio item, navigate to Portfolio> Add New. Here you can add a brief description of the project, assign various categories and upload media.
Adding Images
To add images to each portfolio item, you simply need to upload your images using the inbuilt WordPress media uploader. All images uploaded while creating or editing your portfolio item become attached automatically and will be shown on the project’s detail page. You can upload an unlimited number of images. Images should be 940px in width by any height.
Click the “upload images” button, select your images, and upload. That’s it.
You will need to assign each portfolio item a “featured image” which will become the project’s thumbnail. The theme will crop your images to the appropriate dimensions however if you want complete control over their display, upload a featured image of 220px x 140px exactly.
Adding Portfolio Types
If you wish to categorize your portfolio items, you can assign types. A portfolio type is similar to a post category and assigning them will enable users to filter your portfolio by discipline. You can create new portfolio types by navigating to Portfolio > Portfolio Types or they can be created from the portfolio item creation page.
Currently the portfolio page only displays the thumbnails and filters them based on their categories. The detail page is still being worked on. I’ll update the theme as soon as the detail page is ready.
Theme Options
The theme comes with a simple to use administration panel. You can access it by navigating to Appearance > Theme Options. The theme options are conveniently spread over a number of tabs and each tab contains the options that pertain to a particular area of the theme.
Custom Widgets
The theme comes with 4 custom widgets that can be used to configure how your site displays content – they can be found under Appearance > Widgets.
- Featured Clients
- Team Members
